About Villa Amelia

Villa Amelia was completed in the summer of 2006. It is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with easy access and parking area for a few cars. The villa is in the village of beautiful Metaxata, a typically Greek friendly village complete with church, tavern, restaurant and local shop.

The villa boasts stunning views of the most imposing Mount Aenos (1626m and the highest mountain in Kefalonia) and the Castle of St George, the old capital of Kefalonia. Villa Amelia stands on its own grounds of 700 metres squared with an attractive and well-maintained mature garden. The swimming pool is very private, is screened by a series of tall hedging and is not overlooked by anyone. The BBQ area is enclosed with a wooden & stone pagoda and has its own lighting and running water. The Villa is fully air conditioned, with two bedrooms, both en-suite with bath & shower. There is also a downstairs bathroom with shower.

The ground floor comprises an open-plan large sitting room area, with 2 Italian luxurious leather sofas. For your entertainment, the villa boasts a 40″ plasma TV, stereo and ipod Gear 4 docking station which can also be used at the BBQ area. The villa is equipped with a DVD and an extensive DVD library with over 300 movies to choose from with lots of old classics and movies for children. There is a fully fitted kitchen with hob, oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine & dishwasher. There are 3 dining areas: 1 on the patio, 1 at the BBQ area and 1 in the large living room if you prefer a cosy night in! Each accommodates six or more persons. Outside, there are extensive paved areas overlooking the pool with sun loungers, parasols and coffee poolside tables.

Pam & Ivor Hughes manage the villa. Originally from the UK, they now reside permanently on the island. They will meet you at the airport and are available to you to ensure your stay with us is special and memorable. A complimentary pack is waiting for you upon your arrival.

Location

Villa Amelia is located in the village of Metaxata, a small traditional village with many beautiful gardens. It is a 10 minute drive to the capital Argostoli & the popular resort of Lassi. There are many beaches within an 8/15 minute drive: Avithos, a blue flag beach, is just 8 minutes by car. In 1823, Lord Byron stayed in Metaxata for several months. He was inspired by the natural beauty of the village and the pleasant demeanour of the locals. He wrote many poems praising this wonderful place. His statue stands in the central square of Metaxata. The village has one mini-market which is 5 minutes walk from the villa. Lakithra, the next village 1km away, has a few mini-markets, a bakery and a taverna which is very popular with the locals. There is also a cake shop which has a sinful array of pastries, for those of us who are weak! The villa is well positioned to explore the island. Metaxata, and neighbouring Kourkoumelata, are some of the islands most picturesque areas.

the-owners-story

Kefalonia countryside and wineries

About the Owners

Patrick and Eileen hail from Dublin and both have shared a passion for Kefalonia for over 35 years. Way back, when Eileen was just 19, they both back-packed into Athens for a 3-week trek around the Islands of Greece. Being young and frivolous, they made a fun decision to take the next flight out of Athens wherever it would lead them. That was Kefalonia and they had a full half hour to board. They instantly fell in love with the Island and both made a pact that if they did end up getting hitched and had a family, this would be where they would bring them. Over their 3-week stay in Greece, they went on to visit Corfu, Crete, San Torini, Milos, Kos, Mykonos, Zakynthos and even went to Kusadasi in Turkey. But their view never changed.

They did get hitched up, had three fantastic kids and have pretty much being coming to Kefalonia year in, year out these past 30 years. Amy (Amelia), Colin and Mike, Pat and Eileen’s children, all love Kefalonia. Having spent their summers here, they now have an adult appreciation of the beauty of the Island, which all agree is difficult to define. It is a combination of the beauty of the landscape: the laid back rural Greek Villages complete with goats, swallows, sheep and Shepherds, the amazing flowers, the fabulous nearby beaches with clear water and the towering and awesome Mount Aenos that changes colour so often in the day, its mesmerizing. One could say that the heart of Kefalonia is the friendliness of the people. They have maintained strict laws to ensure that their precious island has not been spoilt. The Kefallonian’s enjoy their Island with their laid back tranquil lifestyle and their laws have never granted permission for loud nightclubs. A point which seamlessly brings us to the final point about its ephemeral beauty: tranquility and peace.

What’s changed in Kefalonia since Eileen was 19? Well, the airport now has a terminal building. The road up to the top of Mount Aenos is now tarmacadamed. There is much more choice of restaurants and local cuisine. The infrastructure has improved: better roads AND there is now 1 roundabout and 1 set of traffic lights on the Island.

What hasn’t changed? The friendliness of the people! The fabulous beaches! Its serenity and tranquillity, its sheep, goats and barking dogs and amazing sunshine.
